Install the approver app on your phone
The approver app turns an Android phone into a second factor: it approves sign-ins and operations with a code you type and your biometrics or PIN. On the phone it appears as AuthGuard Presence.
Which phone do I need?
- Android 14 or later.
- Hardware-backed key storage (the StrongBox chip or the processor's secure environment) and an active screen lock (PIN, pattern, password or biometrics).
- A 64-bit ARM processor.
- An internet connection.
If the phone does not meet these requirements, the app shows «This phone is not supported. Phone approval needs Android 14 or later with hardware-backed key storage.»
There is no iPhone app. iPhone users can sign in with a passkey.
Where do I get the app?
Ask your organization's administrator for the install link. Public distribution through Google Play is still being prepared; until then your organization tells you how to install it.
Which language does it use?
English when the phone is set to English; Portuguese for any other phone language.
What does the app store and send?
- The phone holds two private keys created in its secure hardware. They cannot be copied; the approval key signs only after your biometrics or PIN.
- Biometrics never leave the phone. The camera is used only to read the QR code.
- When you link your account, the server receives the public keys, the keys' attestation certificates and the phone's name.
What next?
Link the phone to your account: see Link your phone to your account. Then turn notifications on: see Request notifications.
My organization does not show «My phones»
The app explains: «Cannot find “My phones”? Your organization has not turned on phone approval yet; ask your administrator.»
